- The Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2018 on the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar from Bijpur district of Chhattisgarh.
- Construction workers, cleaners, patients injured in road accidents, Central Armed Forces etc. can also avail the benefits of this scheme.

The governing council of the National Health Authority (NHA), the body implementing the scheme across the country, has approved it across the country. A pilot project of this scheme will be started.
